We officially met in Ms. Phelps' grade 1 class… just two littles with no idea they were meeting their forever.

Flash forward many years later, we reconnected at Starbucks where Taylor worked. What started out as casual post gym break chats about his favourite book, quickly turned into something neither of us expected.

A short while later on our official first date to Blue Star Diner for dinner and The Rec room for games, Alex asked Taylor to be his girlfriend officially with the silliest Game of Thrones themed dating proposal.

Miraculously we both had previously planned trips at the same time to Taylor’s favourite place, Ireland, and it brought us even closer. A week of exploring together, and meeting loads of her family (no pressure!), and he still stuck around.

We both began our post-secondary journeys. Alex at SAIT studying Cyber Security, and Taylor starting her general year on the path to nursing. We quickly learned how to balance time together with long hours of studying, often turning it into shared study sessions.

After the world shut down due to COVID we escaped to BC for our first camping trip together. It came with its challenges including a leaky tent and an umbrella set up inside to keep our bags dry. Despite that it made for the kind of memories we’ll never forget.

After Alex gifted Taylor a snowboard (and a longboard) for Christmas, hoping to share his favorite hobbies, we hit the slopes for the first time. With ill-fitting boots and probably too high expectations, the day quickly turned into a mix of determination and frustration plus several moments of tears at the top of the hill. Through it all, Alex was endlessly patient, and somehow it only made us stronger.

After Taylor sent Alex a few options, he fully understood the assignment and just had to choose the right one at the right time. Fast forward a few months, he was ready to buy. While searching with those ideas in mind, he happened to find (and fall in love with) the very ring Taylor had liked most, without even looking back at the examples.
